Trio Radial was formed in 2015 with the aim to create new repertoire for the unique instrumentation of horn, clarinet and cello. Their first project took place in 2017 with a successful concert tour throughout Germany and Switzerland. They premiered two pieces by Alireza Farhang and Neil T. Smith as well as performing the work Le Contredésir by Saed Haddad. In 2018 they presented a collaboration with young Frankfurt composers.
Eve Remembers is the name of their next concert program, premiering two new works by Kotoka Suzuki and Elnaz Seyedi alongiside works by Cathy van Eck, Nina Senk and Liza Lim.
The current members of Trio Radial - Deepa Goonetilleke, Shelly Ezra and Esther Saladin met through the International Ensemble Modern Akademie in Frankfurt and are active chamber musicians throughout Europe.
Esther Saladin, cellist, performs as a soloist, chamber and ensemble musician at various festivals in Europe, such as Ultima Oslo, Donaueschinger Tage für Neue Musik, Acht Brücken Köln, Musikfestival Bern, Schwetzinger Feststpiele, among others. As a member of Améi Quartett, Trio uBu,Trio Radial and Sonemus Trio, as well as partner of pianists Sophie Patey and Bernhard Ruchti, Esther Saladin’s focuses on chamber music. Other engagements include work with Ensemble MusikFabrik, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble recherche, Das Neue Ensemble Hannover, Ensemble Proton, Ensemble VIL Stuttgart, Experimentalstudio of the SWR, and many others. Esther Saladin has received prizes and awards, including 1st prize of ‚Kammermusikwettbewerb der Polytechnischen Gesellschaft Frankfurt’ (2012/Améi Quartett) and 1st prize of Boris Pergamenschikow Chamber Music Competition in Berlin (2016/Trio uBu). In collaboration with composer Silvia Rosani and Visual Artist Inês Rebelo, an interdisciplinary performance for cello and live electronics (White Mask) was created during 2016-19 and performed in the UK, Portugal and Germany.
Sri-Lankan-Australian hornist Deepa Goonetilleke was born in 1985. She studied contemporary music, early music and orchestral music in Frankfurt am Main and Brisbane, Australia. Deepa plays regularly with the contemporary ensembles – Ensemble Modern, MusikFabrik, Klangforum Heidelberg, Ensemble Ascolta, Ensemble Proton Bern and Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. She has also worked with the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Norrlands Opera Orchestra (Sweden) and the Würzburg Philharmoniker. As a chamber musician she has been a guest at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn Festival, Venice Biennale, Enescu Festival Bucharest, Holland Festival, Ultraschall Festival Berlin, Tagen für Neue Musik (Zürich), Festival Musica (Strasbourg), Acht Brücken (Cologne) and Podium Festival (Esslingen). Deepa has been a member of French new music group - Ensemble Linea since 2018.
Shelly Ezra enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, a passionate chamber musician and a sought-after interpreter of both New Music and Early Music.
Shelly Ezra is a laureate of national and international competitions such as ARD Music Competition in Munich, Braunschweig International Promotion Prize - Mozart Competition, Freiburg International Clarinet Competition and the, Stockhausen Prize. With her chamber-music ensembles she won prizes at the European Chamber Music Competition Karlsruhe (duo), the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition Salzburg and the Possehl Music Prize Lübeck (trio).
As a soloist she has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Munich, Classical Philharmonic Bonn, Jena Philharmonic, Collegium Musicum Basel, Camerata Moravia and the Israeli Chamber Orchestra.
She has performed extensively on important stages across Europe and the world and participated in CD productions of German Radio, Bavarian Radio and of the labels Naxos and Ars. Since 2018 she is teaching at the Academy for Music Trossingen.
